eel_015 V/A “Alka – Compounded” – 05/17/2011
Welcome to Electronic Eel’s 15th release! 11 artists have come together to remix tracks from Alka’s last full length release “A Dog Lost in The woods” and support a good cause, by donating all proceeds from this remix release to PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals), to which Bryan Michael, the master behind Alka, is an avid supporter. Indie rock music with conscious vocals is often connected with animal rights groups like PETA when the lyrics drive motivation towards animal rights, but Alka has taken that step forward to bring awareness of these issues to the electronic music community even though his music is almost entirely instrumental. Through Social networking widgets, twitter posts, and social applications, alka is ever dedicated to bringing animal rights awareness to a new audience of music enthusiasts every day. All incoming revenue from this remix release as a 100% donation to PETA2.

eel_014 A Study In Her – “In Out About” – 04/06/2010.
The double album In, Out, About, (ASiH’s 5th full length) draws on material written and recorded over the two years Nakassis spent living in South India. While the album moves between many themes and moods, it is the movement in and out of India which characterizes the album, providing it with a thematic feel stronger than any of their other previous ventures. In, Out, and About continues ASiH’s collaborative, genre-blurring song-writing while expanding the musical range with new instrumentation and styles of music. This album boasts everything from in your face rock to synthpop, to ambient and laid back heartfelt acoustic. The kind of talent range you might expect from The Flashbulb.

eel_013 Outputmessage / City Rain – “I Remember EP” – 08/02/2009
This EP is a remix from the title track of City Rain’s “This I Will remember Part 1″. What began as a cool idea expanded into something way more than anyone expected. Ben (City Rain) and Bernard (Outputmessage) decided to each remix one of each other’s tracks. Outputmessage, mashed up “I remember” and added some very cool vocals to the song making it even more astonishing than it was previously. As if that couldn’t be topped, Aligning Minds took over and remixed the remix, and Phasen added a way cool rainy day remix of the original track. 4 awesome versions in this little EP.

eel_012 The Beta-Resercyclic Acid – “Golem Salad” – 08/25/2009
Returning to Electronic Eel for a follow up album to “Loma De Las Cometas” the Beta-Resercyclic Acid serves up 10 new tracks on “Golem Salad”. Golems are animated nonsensical folklore creatures that are created from inanimate matter. Golem salad is a visual representation of what you may find created musically. This album manages a very fine line of controlled chaos and dense textures complimented by an ambient lightness of being, as the Beta-Resercyclic Acid does so well.

eel_011 Alka – “A Dog Lost In The Woods” – 06/02/2009
Bryan Michael once again delivers another full-length Alka album, titled “A Dog Lost In The Woods”. This album is more expansive than the last, with more shifting moods, soft textures, driving tempos, and sharp electronic modular sound. This album is a gem from start to finish, and shows that Alka is always reaching for new heights with each music composition, successfully taking his sound to a higher celestial level, which few are able to master so quickly. Fans of the last album will be blown away. Alka is quickly becoming one of the most respected IDM artists of the present day.

eel_009 City Rain – “This I Will Remember” – 04/07/2009
A young and seasoned veteran to IDM and minimal music, and the Philadelphia indie-electronic music scene, City Rain releases his best and varied album to date. From the brilliant mind of Ben Runyan comes 11 new tracks with both electronic and acoustic elements. Perfect live guitar lines compliment the programming of hard hitting kicks and bass grooves, snares, and claps that make this music a great blend that will appeal to those that like their electronic music full of melody and feeling just as much as those whose feet are lifted off the dance floor moments before the high pass filter drops the bass that punches them square between the ears.

eel_008 Axiotronic – “Of Latitude And Longitude” – 3/31/2009
The third full length release from Philadelphia’s Axiotronic. Of Latitude And Longitude is appropriately titled in relation to its intricate blend of directional possibilities, yet true to its unique sound pallette that has been since Axiotronic’s inception. A blend of depth and lightness, sharp hot computery sound bliss cooled gently by rounded vibraphone and soothing synthetic modular ambient textures. Axiotronic has again been able to compress a powerhouse of energy into a slower tempo that leaves the listener both ready to race and relax at the same exact time. A perfect follow up to the past two releases from this artist.

eel_006 The Beta-Resercyclic Acid – “Loma De Las Cometas” – 01/29/2008There are now 3 great things from Colombia that are guaranteed to get you wired…coffee, cocaine, and now the Beta-Resercyclic Acid. This album is like what maybe Photek would sound like on speed, and if he embraced melody and incorporated it more into the song structure. Loma De Las Cometas translates to “hill of the comets”. Listening to this album will in fact put you on a hill where the comets are headed right for you.

eel_005 A Study In Her – “Another Year In Philadelphia” – 7/31/2007
Not familiar with A Study In Her? Get with it! This is their 4th full length album, and definitely their best effort so far. Featuring ex-members of This Radiant Boy, Jenn Hitt, and Supersystem, we’re dealing with a sharp crew of rockers. There is a fine line blend of in your face indie rock and electronica that is seamless, exciting, and entertaining throughout. Check out this album and find out why this artist has been stuck in cheesesteak-land for a whole ‘nother planetary spin ’round the block.

eel_004 Alka – “Principles of Suffocation” – 8/21/2007
The first full-length release from Alka. If any electronic ambient album should be labeled elite, this is one of them. Blissful melodies, sharp and innovative rhythm work, and atmospheres bigger than the universe are all stuffed into these 12 songs. Very reminiscent of old Future Sound of London, Arovane, Plaid, etc., but in a fresh new cutting edge way.

eel_003 Axiotronic – “Current” – 2006
Whether it’s live electricity running through your veins, a rip tide uncontrollably sweeping you past the breakers, or a simple explanation of up-to-date, “Current” lives up to its name. This is the second full-length release from Axiotronic. “Current” is way more energetic than its predecessor “Yellow Cocktail Music”, and still maintains the core elements and sounds that make Axiotronic what it is…damn good ambient electropop. While myspace users described the last album as dreaming, this will most likely be described as waking up. “Current” is also consistent upon a theme, and is sure to be labeled a good album from start to finish. Get Swept!

eel_002 Phreakon – “The Complete Collection (2002-2006)” – 2006
Beginning a few years back, tracks from this album made their way around the Philadelphia DJ scene. Since then, people affiliated with Phreakon, their friends, and their friends-friends, have repeatedly asked when a sophomore effort might come their way. So far, nothing is in the works, so this CD is all that Phreakon has available. This album was made sampling timeless jazz classics, and combined with live playing, creating some very thin lines between hip-hop jazz, acid jazz, and trip-hop. If the Chop Shop were to be served coffee by DJ Shadow, in an Amsterdam smoke shop while chatting with St.Germain, they’d probably agree that their combined love child would sound a hell of a lot like Phreakon.

eel_001 Axiotronic – “Yellow Cocktail Music” – 2005
If this album resembles any sort of cocktail music, It’s definitely something from an alternate timeline where quasi-early 80’s retro-futuristic lounges, rule all social scenes. It’s the kind of lounge that hovers above Earth in a glass-dome ship, making astronauts of its passengers. A ship, where the cockpit was built with analog dials, switches, levers, and illuminating buttons. It’s a place where you can hear color and taste sound. Perhaps that is where Axiotronic planned on taking the listener with this debut album, so get a ticket and enjoy the ride. Stay as long as you like, its peaceful there, and happy hour is about to begin. Myspace users tend to say this album sounds like dreaming. We think so too.
